Volunteer Job Description: Program Coordinator – Joshua Murray Boating, Safety, Education, and Awareness Center
Position Summary:
The Program Coordinator for the Joshua Murray Boating, Safety, Education, and Awareness Center will play a crucial leadership role in the overall management and success of the center’s initiatives. This individual will oversee the daily operations of the center, coordinate volunteer activities (including the Boating Safety Ambassadors Program), and serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers, partner organizations, and the public. The Coordinator will work closely with the Cornelius Police Liaison and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with policies and effective program delivery, encompassing all aspects of the center’s mission.
Responsibilities:
- Center Operations Management:
- Oversee daily operations, ensuring smooth and efficient functioning of all center activities.
- Coordinate and schedule center activities, including educational programs, events, and volunteer shifts.
- Manage the distribution of boating safety materials, educational resources, and communication tools.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new programs and initiatives, such as the Water Safety Club and partnerships with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
- Volunteer Coordination and Management:
- Recruit, onboard, and manage volunteer schedules and assignments for all center activities, including the Boating Safety Ambassadors Program.
- Ensure volunteers are adequately trained and equipped with necessary materials.
- Maintain accurate volunteer records, including hours and activities.
- Address volunteer inquiries and resolve any issues that may arise.
- Foster a positive and supportive volunteer environment.
- Program Development and Outreach:
- Assist in the development and implementation of educational programs for various audiences, including youth, adults, and emergency responders.
- Coordinate with Cornelius Elementary School to support the Water Safety Club and integrate water safety into the curriculum.
- Collaborate with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary to establish and maintain a communications center.
- Develop and manage the center’s website and social media presence to enhance outreach and communication.
- Forge and maintain partnerships with local stakeholder organizations.
- Communication and Liaison:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers, partner organizations, and the public.
- Collaborate with the Cornelius Police Liaison to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
- Communicate program updates and information to volunteers, stakeholders, and the community.
- Maintain effective communication channels between all parties involved with the center.
- Evaluation and Reporting:
- Assist in the bi-annual program evaluation process, gathering feedback and data on all center activities.
- Monitor volunteer hours and submit monthly timesheets.
- Assist in the creation of reports relating to program effectiveness and impact.
- Track and report program impact, including the number of individuals reached through various initiatives.

Time Commitment:
- Flexible hours, with a commitment to consistent program oversight.
- Will require time to be spent at the Joshua Murray Boating, Safety, Education, and Awareness Center and at offsite events.
