Honoring a Legacy of Service and Safety
Remembering Officer Joshua Murray

Officer Joshua Murray
Officer Joshua Murray was a beloved member of the Cornelius Police Department, joining the force on April 22, 2019. His commitment to service led him to volunteer for the Lake Patrol, where he served with pride and dedication starting from February 24, 2020. Known by his call sign “1455,” Joshua quickly became a positive influence both within the agency and the community.
Affectionately dubbed “Officer McFlurry” on TikTok, Joshua utilized social media to engage and educate, particularly on the importance of boating and lake safety. His warm demeanor and genuine connection with residents around Lake Norman earned him widespread admiration.
Tragically, in the early morning hours of December 29, 2021, Officer Murray called 911 due to a medical emergency. Despite the efforts of first responders, Joshua passed away en route to the medical facility. He was only 28 years old but had already dedicated over 2 ½ years of exemplary service to our agency.
In honor of Joshua’s enduring legacy and his unwavering commitment to lake safety, we proudly dedicate the Joshua Murray Boating Safety and Awareness Center. This center stands as a tribute to Joshua’s passion and vision for ensuring the safety and enjoyment of Lake Norman for all. Through education, outreach, and community engagement, the center will continue Joshua’s mission to promote boater safety and uphold the values he embodied.
Josh, your impact lives on in our hearts and in the waters, you worked so diligently to protect. Rest in peace, Officer Murray.
